The woman, believed to be aged in her 20s, was travelling home to Southport from Melbourne when she fell from the car and into the road.
“It’s a very tragic event,” Victorian Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Andrew McGarvey said.
One woman died after a Gold Coast gold bus crashed through a wall in the Gold Coast town of Whitsunday this afternoon.
The victim was a female passenger on the bus and is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
Witnesses said the Gold Coast bus was passing through Whitsunday after travelling south on the highway.
Witnesses said the bus passed by the small town at about 9:30pm.
“I had been walking down there for about 15 minutes and saw a white vehicle driving northbound,” said resident Tony Haskins.
“We got out of the way and it hit the wall and she landed on her head.”
The bus driver has been arrested andgospelhitz charged with reckless driving.
Mr McGarvey says the crash remains under investigation, but there was “no evidence or cause at this time that would suggest it was caused by anything other than what has now been discovered”.
